Puppet's Pages - Puppet is here!

Hello....My name is Puppet and I'm a motorcycle Drag Race addict...I've been building Drag Bikes since a fateful day in the late 70's when Paul Gast came in my shop to get some welding done on his two stroke drag bike...
I was building Drag Cars at the time and knew how they worked but I had no idea how a ridged frame motorcycle worked...I could have just looked at one of Kosmans bikes and copied it but that wouldn't be right...I'm not one to build things that I don't understand, so I started out on a testing program...By the fourth chassis I had a good idea of how they worked and what happened when you moved the motor around and played with the wheelie bar length...
The first bike I built to run the Pro Classes was a two stroke Pro Stock for Dave Schultz...He wanted it light so we made one of the first fiberglass tank shells and put the gas(tank)in the frame...We mounted it with Dzus buttons which were largely unheard of in the motorcycle ranks back then...I decided to put the air in the frame to save the weight of the air tank..
The bike was fairly successful even though it was a two stroke racing against the big four strokes..Since that time I have built a variety of bikes and have settled pretty much on Top Fuel four cylinder and Top Fuel Harleys and Funny Bikes although I do build an occasional Pro Stock type bike..

I will be writing articles on things I have learned over the years on what makes a drag bike work...Things like, mounting the motor, chassis design, Chassis flex, wheelie bars, air boxes and how they work, aluminum bodies vs. fiberglass, engine placement, Inner coolers for airboxes and anything else I can think of... These will be "MY" opinions and mine only...

Later...

It's with great pride that we welcome Puppet to StripBike.com. (He doesn't think he's a legendary frame builder and cartoonist, but we know better.)
