SUCCESSFUL LABOUR DAY WEEKEND OUTING FOR POLLARD NITROSPORTS

Record Quickest Drag Bike Run on Canadian Soil at Grand Bend Motorplex Night of Nitro

(September 10, 2009)Dorchester, ON – The Pollard Nitrosports Top Fuel Motorcycle team continues to add impressive accomplishments to its list of record breaking performances since debuting its new bike in the fall of 2008. This past weekend was no exception as rider Geoff Pollard seized the opportunity, with his last event on Canadian soil in 2009, to lay down the quickest drag bike pass ever recorded at a Canadian drag strip.

In front of a large crowd during the annual “Night of Nitro” event at Grand Bend Motorplex this past Labour Day Weekend, brothers Greg and Geoff Pollard orchestrated an impressive showing of their continually developing talents as both crew chief and rider.

With a full contingent of sponsors, fans and friends on hand as part of the hospitality event the team was hosting, they put together a 6.14 second, 216 mile per hour run during the night-time session of the show, giving everyone in the stands something to cheer about. That run earned them not only the track record for Grand Bend Motorplex, but was the quickest Top Fuel Motorcycle pass in history on Canadian soil, now giving them the distinction of being both the quickest and fastest Canadian drag bike team, as well as having made the quickest run in Canada. “We really wanted to make our first five second pass here this weekend” said rider Geoff Pollard. “The fact that we were able to come out and put on a good show for all the fans and in the process claim the track record along with the quickest run on Canadian soil is still a pretty cool deal.”

The hospitality event, which was hosted in the Pollard Nitrosports pit area, was put together as a way to say thanks to the businesses and people who have supported the team this season. “This was a way for us to say thanks to those companies who have helped us achieve all the success we have this season.” said team co-owner and crew chief Greg Pollard. “We couldn’t do this without their support and the support of our family and friends, and we’re really grateful for those that were able to make it out this weekend.”

Of those businesses on hand the team would like to thank W.H. Lubricants of Waterloo, ON which supplies the team with Brad Penn – Grade 1 Racing Oil, Vanhoucke Siding Contractors located in Dorchester, ON, CGS Automotive and Refinishing of London, ON which applied the amazing paint to the bike, Plating Master, also based in London, ON, which provided the immaculate chrome work on the bike, Sparky’s Performance, based in Tilbury, ON which supplies the team with its VP Racing Fuels Methanol and East Penn Battery of London, ON who has supplied the team with all of its battery needs.

The next stop in 2009 for the Pollard Nitrosports team will be the AMA Drag Bike Fall Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio October 10-11, where they will look to take home their second AMA national event win of the season and the fifth of Geoff’s career. About Pollard NitroSports

On the track since the mid 80’s Geoff Pollard has piloted several types of racing motorcycle to event championships and national elapsed time and speed records. In 1993 Pollard Racing Canada was formed with the introduction of the teams Alcohol Funny Bike. In 1999 Geoff scored a Pro Star national event victory and became the first Canadian to eclipse 200 miles per hour on a motorcycle. After a close battle for the national point’s championship in 2000 the Pollard’s passion to go faster led them to the Top Fuel Motorcycle division. The team excelled out of the gate in 2005 setting the Canadian national record for the class and winning another Pro Star national event making Geoff the first rider in Pro Star history to win an event in Funny Bike and Top Fuel competition.

The Pollard NitroSports team debuted a new Top Fuel Motorcycle in 2008 and proceeded to reset both ends of the Canadian record with a 6.08 elapsed time, 231 miles per hour blast in November of that same year. The team entered 2009 with one goal in mind, eclipse the six second barrier and become the first Canadian team to do so, thus etching their names in the record books even further. They came one step closer to that goal when they set a new Canadian record running a 6.04 second elapsed time at more than 232 miles per hour en route to their third national event win at the AMA Pingel Thunder Nationals in August, 2009.
