TEAM MRE MANAGER
Jay Regan greeted us with a hearty welcome at the threshold of his office. Up the stairs and inside we became even more comfortable by the spacious surroundings. We conducted our interview with Jay and then departed until his crew chief came aboard later for another interview. That would have to be early afternoon, as he had to travel from Bradenton to Clearwater. We met again at Okeefe's Restaurant, a legendary pub. After iced tea, we did some bench racing, and then got back to interviews.

What do you like most about your job?
"Ohh, I don't know…Satisfaction."
What do you like least about your job?
"Firing people."
If you could change anything about motorcycle drag racing, what would you change?
"Biggest problem with the events are qualifying and elimination. It needs to go faster. How long can anyone camp out in the stands, how big of a cooler can you carry?"
What do you do to relax?
"Go home and play with my cat."
Who are your heroes?
"My mom"
What do you do to overcome frustration?
"Build a better mouse trap."
Do you have time for a hobby?
"Just racing."
What's important?
1.Money
2.Thrills/fun
3.Winning
4.Achievement
"MONEY. Greed isn't necessarily bad. If you go into something, go with both feet."
Do you have any special mental preparations to do your job?
"No."
What ethic, what plan do you stress to your race team, so they get the most out of every ride?
"Don't beat yourself. I hate to lose, but when they go for the throat, and don't have to, and blow a run. I'm not happy."
Are you happy?
"Absolutely."
What could make you happier?
"Losing a hundred pounds."
What do you predict for the future of Pro Mod and Funny bike?
"I think it's going to come from Europe."
What about the rule changes coming up? Specifically, Top Eliminator?
"I hope it doesn't dilute the other classes. If it brought new blood to the sport, then that's great, but if it doesn't it just pulls from other classes. "
Gary agreed, and added that dilution looks like a problem.
(We all should know that we don't know all, and if what works, works…we're happy too.)
Additional Comments?
"I want to thank everyone for doing business with MRE. I hope they succeed. I constantly hope we can do more for more people."
