Tommy Grimes and Mid-Continent Motorsports Runner Up at Dallas
Pfafftown, NC: Tommy Grimes and Mid-Continent Motorsports were runner up at the Lonestar Nationals Presented by Kresto despite having some issues in qualifying in the Screamin’ Eagle Top Fuel Series.
During the Saturday qualifying sessions the Texas breezes prevailed and sent AHDRA officials to the trailer to determine safety would reign supreme and made a decision to cut the qualifying session to an 1/8 mile. This wise decision sent Grimes and team scrambling to the pits to re-gear the bike and change the set up and they missed the first round. The 2nd round was 4.887 ET and the 3rd round moved Grimes up comfortably in middle of the field with a 4.498 ET.
In round 1 of eliminations, Grimes advanced over J Sternotti and in round 2 Grimes took out Bill Furr. But coming down the other side of the ladder was Phil Schmidt who met Grimes in the finals. Neither rider had a stellar pass, but it was Schmidt with the win with a 7.45 ET over Grimes’ 8.49 ET.
Grimes, “This was a very interesting weekend, but Texas Motorplex is always full of surprises. I do agree with the decisions made by the AHDRA officials although it wasn’t easy for us, it was a good decision and we worked through it. It’s always good to run against Phil and we look forward to winning against him next time. Our team had 4 teams competing this weekend, we worked very hard to keep everyone in the program and I was again very thankful to have Freddie Robbins who not only worked very diligently with the Top Fuel bike but shared the driving. But don’t call for a day of so, ‘cause we’ve “gone fishing” in Oklahoma. See everyone in Commerce, GA, for the AHDRA Stone Mountain Harley-Davidson Southern Nationals, May 24-25.”
The Mid-Continent Motorsports team is supported by: Harley-Davidson of Salina, Mike's Metal Polishing of Ransom, Ks., Gates Corporation, Saum Engineering, CP pistons, Nungesser Engineering, and Nevada Auto Mall.
